If you are a small business looking to reach a global audience, you need to consider selling on eBay. Selling on eBay open up a large opportunity for you to get products from Ghana in front of your potential customers.
Why Sell on eBay?
- It is one of the largest global online marketplaces with over 800 million monthly users
- Less restrictions on product category. You can sell almost everything on Ebay. Illegal items are strictly prohibited.
Before you even think about selling on eBay, there is a basic planning that needs to be done. I recommend you note the following:
- What to sell on eBay. Some items sell faster than others.
- What payments method is available to accept orders. PayPal is mostly the accepted payment method.
- Current shipping methods and policies in Ghana
- Is my country eBay compliant?
After the basic planning is done, it is time to begin the actual journey to sell on eBay – follow the steps below to set up your business on eBay.
What you need (Requirements)
There are some stuffs that you need to get in place before you can even sign up. Below is a list of the most important and requirements needed to set up your shop.
- An active email address
- Payment Method – PayPal is the most used payment method for sellers outside USA. Ebay is gradually moving to managed payments. You’ll learn more about that in the subsequent sections.

Steps to Follow to Sell on eBay
Creating a Selling Account
Selling on eBay starts with creating a normal account on the platform. Go to www.ebay.com and click “Register”. You can sign up with “Continue with Gmail” or create an entirely new account
You’ll be automatically signed in after a successful registration.
- Locate and click on “My eBay” in the top navigation menu.
- Click on “Selling”. You’ll be redirected to a new page requesting more information about you.
- Fill in all the details required of you – country, address, city, region, postal code and mobile number.
- Click “Continue” to proceed. Selling account has been successfully created.
Listing Your Products
It’s time to list your first item. Before you list, you need to read eBay’s policies on listings https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/listing-policies?id=4213 so you don’t go contrary to any of them.
- In your dashboard, click on “List an item”.
- Enter the product you want to sell in the search bar, eBay will show some suggestions. Click on the most appropriate category for your products.
- Enter all details in the product listing form shown.

- In your dashboard, click on “List an item”.
- Enter the product you want to sell in the search bar, eBay will show some suggestions. Click on the most appropriate category for your products.
- Enter all details in the product listing form shown.
- Title: Title of your products goes here. It should have the most important keywords to stand out.
- Category: choose the right category that best fits what you’re selling.
- UPC:
- Condition of item: used or new
- Photos: upload high definition photos of your products.
- Item specifics: this is where every specific detail of your item goes. Make sure to provide the right information.
- Item description: describe your item in some few sentences.
- Format: Auction-style if you prefer to auction product or fixed price. If auction, choose the duration of the auction sale.
- Price: set a reasonable price for your item.
- Quantity: enter the amount of the products you have in stock.
- Payment options: enter your PayPal address.
- Sales tax: not applicable if you’re selling from Ghana.
- Return policies: decide here whether you accepts returns or not.
- Shipping details: set price for both domestic and international ship.
- Item location: choose the town where you’ll ship the item from.
- Click “List item” to list your item on eBay.
After successfully listing your first item for sale on eBay, go back to your dashboard to set the right preferences in your account settings.
