Create partition using windows disk management tool

Partitioning a hard drive is actually dividing it into many parts. It comes along with a lot of benefits. In this post, we have outlined the simplest way to do so using the windows disk management tool

  • Locate and right-click on “My Computer” or “This PC
  • Click on Manage

The Computer Management window will open

  • Locate and click on “Disk management” on the left panel. All installed disks on your system will appear

 

  • In this tutorial, we are using Disk 0, which is the main disk of the machine
  • We are going to a partition the disk C

 

  • Right-click on the disk and click on “Shrink volume

 

  • Wait for the disk to query shrink space

 

  • Enter the amount you want to partition (in megabytes)…..NB: 1024mb = 1gb

 

  • Click on shrinkto continue

The new partition is now created as an unallocated space. It has to be formatted to complete the process

  • Right-click on the newly created partition and click on “New simple volume
  • Click on continue until done

You’ve successfully created a new partition
